New Features of the website
We redesigned the whole website during Feb-April 2007, and introduced a handful of new features. The aim of the redesign was to refresh the feel of the site and to introduce features which would make it easier to update the content. We're also hoping to extend who can update the website - for instance, the girls section may be given their own 'corner' to manage.
So, what new features are there? Read on...
Flickr Photo Galleries
We often receive photographs from our social events, matches and tournaments, but they've always taken a huge amount of time to prepare them for use on the website (sometimes days!). So, we're now using the Yahoo's, Flickr website. Now, any AEK-BOCO website editor can upload pictures from anywhere in the world, and they'll be added automatically! You can expect this feature to be used heavily - feel free to pass us your pictures for use via our email.
AEK-BOCO News Blog
Firstly, a blog is, in simple terms, a web site where you write stuff on an ongoing basis. Think of it as being similar to a diary or captains log, or electronic newsletter, detailing the news and events at that moment in time.
Why do we want one?
Well, it makes updating you about our happenings much easier. So we now have the Greenbank Gazzette Blog - a weekly news blog carrying news from the club - this might be regarding our performances in the league or a tournament, or details of a upcoming social event, or just my personal thoughts on something happening in the Premiership; we'll also have the occassional light-hearted look at sport in general. You'll usually be able to access the Greenbank Gazzette Blog from the left hand column of most pages.
If this blog is a success, we'll be looking at introducing more specific ones throughout the site. So we may have one for the Girls Under 12's team for instance, or for the adult teams.
Future Developments
We're always looking at the world of the Internet to see how we can improve our website, in line with the primary aims of our website. Some of the current features we're examining are:
- Club Shop - we've been selling various items of clothing for about a year now, and we're very keen to offer a web-bsaed service online. We may also extend this to non-clothing items too, such as mousemats, coffee cups etc.
- Team and News Blogs - we're looking at introducing a number of blogs to allow reporting of stories directly to the news page and the team home pages. If you would like to help, please get in touch.
- Twitter - Twitter is a small blog. We're considering adding this to our site to bring you short snipets of news - maybe results or reminders. It should be a bit of fun, but won't have a large presence on the site.
- RSS News Feeds - I'll try and keep this non-technical... An RSS Feed allows you to read any new stories on the AEK-BOCO website without actually visiting us. This would mean that you don't have to visit our site and your other favourites every a day to check if there are any new stories, you could head to an RSS reader or you email inbox to check.
- Anything else - have we missed something? Is there a feature you'd like to see on the website? As always, you can contact us with your suggestion and we'll see what we can do.
